beyond the frame
At the start of my senior year, I was asked to select a social issue, research the problems and using design as a means to help solve those problems. Because body image among girls/women is a prevalent issue, and also one that affects me personally. For the final project, I designed a book showcasing my research, process, and solutions to the problem. I also designed an exhibit that was displayed at our senior show in order to bring the issue to the public’s attention. The title “beyond the frame” is intended to be a play on words – beyond the frame, as in the body (because we are so much more than our appearance), beyond the frame of mind (changing the way we think about beauty), and beyond the frame (posts on social media are cropped to a frame). The exhibit strives to warn the public of the dangerous effects of social media on body image among women and girls.
